Winterizing Your Property - Property Management

Don't get left out in the cold - prepare your home for winter now, so you don't have to worry about doing it when it's nothing but snow and ice out there!

Tis the season for snow, ice and turning on the heat already! (Ok we may be jumping the gun just a little bit but winter will be here sooner than you think!) Below is a non-exhaustive list of tips - divided by indoor or outdoor preparations - to help you better prepare your property for the coming cold and potential ice or snow. Take a look through and make note of anything you didn’t think of or have more questions on. Use the form at the end to send our way so we can help expand upon any of these so you can be fully prepared for the cold and snow.

    • Check Your Attic Insulation ( or Hire a Professional)

    • Check for Any Air Gaps and Seal Them (Windows & Doors Especially!)

    • Clean/Inspect Dryer Vents

    • Test Smoke Detectors

    • Check/Replace HVAC Filters

    • Insulate Pipes (or Hire Someone To Do So)

    • Lay Down Rugs

    • Install Curtains or Drapes (can help keep the cold out and the warmth in if new windows aren’t an option)

    • Have Your Heating System Check by a Professional

    • Make Sure Your Heating Vents are Clear/Open

    • Double Check All Space Heaters (Make Sure They’re In Working Order, Plugs are Fine, etc.)

    • Clean Your Gutters

    • Drain and Shut Off Any Outdoor/Garden Hoses

    • New Windows (Especially If Any of the Seals Have Gone Bad)

    • Insulate Your Garage Door

    • Remove and Properly Store Window AC Units

    • Check your Roof/Chimney

    • Any Needed Winter Tools, etc. (Like a new snow shovel, salt, gas for your snowblower)

    • Double Check Any Handrails and Make Sure They’re in Solid Working Order (slipping on ice is not the time to find out)

    • Declutter the Yard (Make sure all lawn furniture, tools, the grill, etc. are in/out of the weather)

    • Bring Any Potted Plants Inside (Preferably BEFORE the first frost!)
